In this episode of Hey Plant Trainers, we answer a question about a possible iron deficiency resulting in fatigue and energy loss. There are 2 types of iron, heme (from animals) and non-heme (from plants). While it may be said that our body may absorb heme iron more efficiently, there are tons of options for iron from plant-based sources. It’s also interesting to note that while vegetarians and vegans have less iron stores than omnivores, they do not have higher incidences of anemia.

Here is today’s question:

Hey Plant Trainers, I’ve been vegetarian for a while now and trying to become more vegan yet I find my energy levels fluctuate. That being said, most of the time I feel low on energy. I’ve been told that the reason could be that I’m lacking iron in my diet Could I have an iron deficiency? What are some good sources of Iron from whole plant-based foods that I can add which will boost my energy levels.
