Most people lose their motivation at times, but the good news is, you can get it back! Staying motivated can certainly be challenging at times.

Unmotivated asks:

Hey Plant Trainers, I lost my motivation to go to the gym. What should I do?

Thanks for your question, Unmotivated.

We are sorry to hear that you’ve lost your motivation to show up for your workouts, but we are certain you’ll find some shimmery glimpse of hope in this answer.

There can be many reasons why you are not motivated. Maybe you’re just tired. Are you eating enough? Getting all the nutrition you need? Are you sleeping well? Are you under a lot of stress?

There are many easy ways to fix a problem like this. You can take a good look at your big picture. Get a blood test or hire a coach to look at this with you and make some adjustments.

But maybe it’s not as complicated as that. Maybe you just need something more. Some people used to love lifting weights and running on a treadmill and being in their own head in the gym. But given that our society has turned communication into cyber communications, maybe you just need a sense of belonging and face to face communication. Perhaps a more social workout is what you need right now.

Sometimes we just get bored or are ready to move on. Perhaps you need to change this workout to some other hobby like rock climbing, obstacle course challenges or just take a few fitness classes.

If those ideas are not the problem, make yourself a promise. Tell yourself you won’t get that new phone you’ve been wanting until you get to the gym 3 times a week consistently for three months. It’s a little superficial. But it may just work.

More importantly, we suggest getting in touch with your why…Why is the gym important? Why will it impact your life and what will happen without it?

For more on this subject, try listening to this short podcast. Hopefully it’ll help you as well!
