New Year’s Resolution vs New Year’s Restitution

As the New Year quickly approaches and your resolutions are being formulated, I want you to consider the following.

Many New Year’s Resolutions are focused on health. Many resolutions are made and not followed through on. If you have a resolution this year of becoming a healthier person, consider a New Year’s Restitution rather than a New Year’s Resolution.

What is restitution you may be asking?

Restitution is the act of restoring to the rightful owner something that has been taken away, lost or surrendered.

So what should you be restoring? What are you the rightful owner of? What has been taken away from you?

The answer: YOUR HEALTH

Over the last 40 years or so, we, the public, have been manipulated and lied to by our governments, the media, big food companies and pharmaceutical companies. We have been basically sold the fact that processed foods and sugar are the way to health. We have been sold that counting calories is the best way to lose weight.

We can be thankful to those companies and organizations for the fact that the U.S.A. is #1 on the list of the most obese countries in the world (34% of the population) and Canada sits heavily at #6 (24% of the population).

This is very sad news. What’s even more disturbing is the fact that in 1978, 15% of the children in Canada were overweight or obese. By 2007 adolescents were 29% overweight or obese and the predicted number for the year 2040 is that 70% of adults will be overweight or obese!

If you didn’t know, obesity is a major cause of chronic diseases such as heart disease, strokes, cancers, diabetes, as well as many other auto-immune diseases!

The good news is, we do have control over this very serious obesity epidemic that is upon us!

We can control the foods we consume, the companies we support and of course the products we purchase.

Here are 5 ways to take control of your health:

1. Educate yourself – Know the facts about the foods you consume

2. Avoid processed foods – Eat whole foods (preferably plant-based)

3. Avoid sugar – This is our generation’s most potent drug and is extremely dangerous!

4. Vote with your $$$ – when you purchase products from big food/pharmaceutical companies, buyer beware. By from local, organic, Non-GMO farmers/companies.

5. Spread the word – In order to create change in our world, a huge paradigm shift is required.

Be a part of the movement to better health for us and our children!

I sincerely hope you will consider joining me in finding restitution in 2014…have a safe, happy and healthy New Year!

p.s. New Year’s Resolutions typically only last a few months anyway…why not make a change that lasts forever?
