Asthma is probably the most common chronic disease in children and the prevalence is increasing around the world. Asthma is a respiratory condition marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing. It usually results from an allergic reaction or other forms of hypersensitivity. Treating asthma is a very interesting concept.

While the environment can be the culprit to the cause many times, allergies to animals and foods can also be to blame. Some things, in fact most things, we can control in order to help in treating asthma. If you frequently experience shortness of breath or you hear a whistling or wheezy sound in your chest when you breathe, you may have asthma, a chronic condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes, the passageways that allow air to enter and leave the lungs. But don’t get all caught up in the medication hype. There are other ways to treating asthma and today that’s the focus. If your asthma only appears during exercise, you may be able to make it disappear so you can feel awesome and take those deep breathes you really want to.

This week’s question:

Dan’s question: “I have recently been diagnosed with asthma and it effects me especially during exercise. I have inhalers that the doctor prescribed to me, but I really don’t like using them. Is there anything else I can do? I don’t want to stop exercising!
