The microwave is a hard call for so many people. Should we use it or should we lose it? We keep hearing that it is bad for us, but it is SO convenient that we want to hear good news. There are many sites out there that tell their readers the worst news about microwaves, but can they be trusted? Are those sites working off of good research? The question about using the microwave or not is one we do not have an answer for specifically. We hope we provide you with enough information to make informed decisions. As we find more information, we will keep you in the know.
This week’s question:
Margaret asks: “Hey Plant Trainers, does microwaving food change the nutritional value of the food? I heard that microwaving can change the chemical makeup somehow of the food so that the body can no longer absorb the nutrients. I also heard that it kills any live enzymes. Is this true? Sometimes it is convenient to use the microwave, especially for things like potatoes. But I have been avoiding it for about a year since I heard this. I think it is ok to microwave water for tea, but I am not even sure about that. If you could help me get to the bottom of this, it would be greatly appreciated.”
